That's a lot of tyres. Worse still, waste tyres are bulky and difficult to dispose. They cannot be easily compressed or folded to reduce the space they occupy, and landfills are already at strained capacity. Those waste tyres that aren't illegally burned, releasing noxious gases like dioxins and carbon monoxide into the environment, become reservoirs of rain water and breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other vectors of disease like malaria, denge and yellow fever. We at Cubic 38 used this problem to innovate eco-friendly products for everyday use.

Turning dangerous waste into an Eco-Friendly RecyclED Product



Tyres can be processed into 3 main ingredients using pyrolysis (this is a thermochemical decomposition of organic material at temperatures between 400 °C and 900 °C without the presence of oxygen or other reagents). We use pyrlosis to turn waste tyres into their respective parts, namely:

  • Bio oil 40%
  • Carbon black 30%
  • Natural gas 20%
  • High tensile steel 10%

From these recycled ingredients, we have developed affordable and high-quality shoe polish and tyre shine products for everyday use.



Our Story



Cubic 38 was founded on 19 May 2017 in a small car garage at Muzinda residence by Mzokhona Maxase and Tshepo Sithole, who were then students of Tshwane University of Technology. Their mission was to create high quality and affordable products for daily use from non-conventional sources, such as waste tyres or processed rubber. Waste tyres have accumulated at landfills in South Africa for many years, and some are even illegally dumped in open spaces or resold.


After visiting a pyrolysis plant (an eco-friendly way of burning rubber) in Pretoria West and its shredded tyre supplier, the Cubic 38 team were inspired to work hard in innovating product solutions that would serve a large audience from recycled materials. From out of this extensive research and development, Cubic 38 created two products: BLACK SHOE POLISH and BLACK TYER SHINE.



SHOE POLISH



Cubic 38's shoe polish is a wax-based shoe polish that has been formulated with special ingredients to produce the best shine when applied on leather (providing water damage protection). With ingredients that help in ensuring that the polish is easily removed from hands or any other part of the body, and carries a pleasant scent, there is no better option for polishing your shoes.

TYRE SHINE



Cubic 38's tyre shine replaces the use of conventional shoe polish to buff and shine tyres. Unlike conventional shoe polish, our tyre shine doesn't leave any dark marks on the rims or attract dust. Even better is the affordability of our tyre shine when compared to other high gloss products. There is no better alternative to our high quality solution that is both effective and low cost.
